Welcome back to our English learning adventure! I’m still learning as I go—and teaching what I learn. Let’s keep it simple, fun, and practical.
Today’s focus is on three more important parts of speech:
👉 Adjectives
👉 Adverbs
👉 Prepositions
🟡 What Are These Parts of Speech?
These parts of speech describe, add detail, and connect ideas. They help us say how, when, where, and what kind of things we’re talking about.
🟨 1. Adjective — Describes a Noun
An adjective gives more information about a noun. It tells us what kind, how many, or which one.
🧠 If you’re describing a person, place, or thing—it’s probably an adjective!
✨ Examples:
- happy
- green
- five
- small
- smart
🟢 Examples in sentences:
- I have three cats.
- The blue sky is beautiful.
- She is a kind teacher.
📝 Try it!
- What’s your definition of an adjective?
- Write 3 adjectives.
- Use them in a short paragraph or story!
🟩 2. Adverb — Describes a Verb (or Adjective/Other Adverb)
An adverb tells us how, when, where, or to what extent something happens.
🧠 Many adverbs end in -ly, but not all!
✨ Examples:
- quickly
- very
- today
- outside
- often
🟢 Examples in sentences:
- He runs quickly.
- They arrived yesterday.
- She sings very well.
📝 Try it!
- What’s your definition of an adverb?
- Write 3 adverbs.
- Use them in a few creative sentences!
🟦 3. Preposition — Shows Relationship or Direction
A preposition connects a noun or pronoun to another word in the sentence. It often shows location, time, or movement.
✨ Examples:
- on
- in
- under
- before
- near
🟢 Examples in sentences:
- The book is on the table.
- She arrived before dinner.
- The cat sat under the chair.
📝 Try it!

📖 Let’s Put It All Together!
The Colorful Day of Zara ☀️
Zara woke up early and looked out her bright window. The sun was shining softly, and the birds sang loudly in the tree outside her room. She wore a yellow dress and ran quickly to the garden behind her house.
In the garden, she picked five flowers and put them in a basket. Her cat followed her happily. It was a wonderfulmorning.
🔁 Quick Recap
- Adjective = Describes a noun (happy, blue, five)
- Adverb = Describes a verb or adjective (quickly, very, yesterday)
- Preposition = Shows relationships or directions (on, under, before)
